ANZAC Surprise

At Tahunanui school we are learning about ANZAC day. Mrs Beyer-Rieger came to see us today with something very special . She used to be in the Army and she brought in her old army pack, full of things she used in the Army. Maddy was lucky enough to model the uniform for us. Thank you Mrs Beyer Rieger for an exciting morning!

First Maddy put on a hat, shirt and pants.

Then she had to choose between boots for the Jungle or the Desert.

Then Mrs Beyer Rieger put her Webbings on, this carries all the gear she needs such as a drink bottle or ammunition.

Mrs Beyer Rieger had a teddy bear for the times she got lonely.

Next she showed us a Grenade! (don't worry, it was just a pretend one!)

She had a mini cooker in her Webbings, she used this to cook her meals.

Cruz was lucky enough to try on her Gas Mask, he was stoked!

Lastly Mrs Beyer Rieger showed us her medals for serving New Zealand.

Farewell Mr Drummond!

Mr Drummond had his last day as principal at our school on Thursday. We had a special assembly for him and we all got to wave him goodbye as he flew away in a helicopter! Farewell Mr Drummond, we will all miss you!
We all had to wear ties for the assembly because Mr Drummond loves ties.

The kapa Haka group performed for him.

Mr Drummond had a special suit made out of ties made especially for him.
He was presented with a gift from the first student he ever gave the Stretch award to when he started here 17 years ago.

Mr Drummond made his way through the Guard of Honour.

And away he flew, goodbye Mr Drummond!!

Balloon Experiment

We did an experiment in Room 1. We put some vinegar into a beaker and attached a balloon full of baking soda to the top. Next we tipped the balloon upside down to dump the baking soda into the vinegar. It bubbled up and produced gas which blew up the balloon! It was so fun we did it twice. Afterwards we all wrote stories about the experiment, what fun!!
